WHO AM I
I am interested in people and would like to support them in their quest to live meaningfully and to look in creative ways at the problems that keep them from living life to the fullest and achieving their goals.
WHY I CAN HELP
I completed several courses in life coaching, as well as a course in counseling at Living Word. Since I have a degree in communication science and have made a career out of it, I know how people communicate with each other and the problems that can arise if the communication process suffers shipwreck.
I grew up in an apartment, but spent every holiday and long weekend on a farm in the bushveld. I know the busy city, but am just as at home in the woods. I was raised by a single parent who earned only a small civil service salary and had to support four children with it. Since my father passed away early in my life, I know the problems men sometimes experience due to an absent father and how to heal those wounds.
Since there was no money to study full-time, I left my parents' home early, did military service, and started working. So I had to study part-time to earn a degree and postgraduate diploma. Although I experienced bitterly difficult days, I also experienced the love and help of my mother, brothers, sisters and friends and learned how important it is to be part of a community.
At thirty, I experienced what it felt like to be deep in debt after a company of which I was a shareholder went bankrupt. I had to make plans and work hard to pay that money back.
After the newspaper for which I worked for ten years as a reporter and sub-editor closed its doors, I and many other reporters were suddenly out of work. To survive, I had to learn new skills and build a new career.
On Gough Island I was the communicator and spent 14 months with just six other team members. During that time, I had to learn to be patient, accepting others' mistakes and quirks, and living with them. Of course, I also realized that I myself have mistakes and do things that irritate others.
I have been happily married for 26 years and have raised three daughters.
For more than 17 years, I was the editor-in-chief and owner of a magazine that provided employment to seven other people. This job allowed me to travel a lot and meet many interesting people.
My goal is to assist others in their search for a purpose in life, to create courage, to set goals and pursue purposefully, to get rid of negative and unfounded thoughts and beliefs, to create order in their lives, reach their full potential and live life to the fullest.
